Brother of 21043 Corporal Douglas Duncan John Dingwall and 594 Private Gordon Monroe Dingwall MM.
Alexander Dingwall landed at Gallipoli in August 1915 and evacuated to Egypt in December. He arrived in France In June 1916 and was promoted to Lieutenant. In November he was awarded the Military Medal and was wounded in action a week later and hospitalised in England. He returned to France in February 1917. In August he was severely wounded by gunshots to his head, chest and left shoulder and transferred to the 3rd London General Hospital at Wandsworth. He was invalided to Australia in October.
