Alexander Cameron transferred to the 5th Pioneer Battalion in Egypt in March 1916 and landed in France in June. In July at Calais hospital he had his appendix removed, then developed colitis and was transferred to Sheffield’s 3rd Northern General Hospital. In March 1917 at Fovant Military Camp he developed chronic bronchitis. He returned to Australia in April and was discharged in July.
