Alexander Steven landed at Lemnos in October 1915 with 15th Battalion reinforcements in reserve for Gallipoli but they were not deployed. After five months in Egypt he arrived in France in June 1916. In April 1917 15th Battalion suffered heavy losses at Bullecourt. On 6 July in Belgium he was killed in action near Ypres. His body was never recovered.
