Alexander Black landed in France, after six months in England, in June 1917. In July 1918 he was wounded in action at Hamel with gunshots to his chest and right hand. Admitted to hospital in Rouen, he transferred to London’s Southwark War Hospital. He was invalided to Australia in November.
