Alfred Tregea served at Gallipoli with the 9th Battalion from May to December 1915. In February 1916 in Egypt he transferred to the newly-raised 49th Battalion and arrived in France in June. He was killed in action on 8 July 1918 at Hamel and buried nearby. He was 24. In August 1919 his remains were exhumed and reburied at Crucifix Corner Cemetery.
