Arthur Porter landed in France in June 1917 and deployed to Belgium. In October he was wounded in action in the Battle of Passchendaele. While recuperating in hospital in Le Trepport he was awarded the Military Medal. In France on 3 April 1918, two weeks after returning from leave in England, he was killed in action at Dernancourt.
