Christian Lund transferred to the newly-raised 49th Battalion in Egypt in February 1916. He left Egypt in August 1916 for England where he remained for six months. In March 1917 he joined his unit in France. He was killed by shellfire at Ploegsteert in Belgium on 15 July. His body was never recovered.
