Edward Leigh arrived in France, via Egypt and England, in October 1916 and transferred to the 49th Battalion. On 7 June 1917 he was killed in action at Messines, Belgium and buried nearby. After the war his remains were exhumed and re-interred at the new Messines Ridge British Cemetery.
