Edward Pentecost arrived in France in September 1916. His 25th Battalion took part in two attacks near Flers, in the worst conditions of rain and mud known to the AIF. Following the second attack on 14 November Edward was declared missing in action - it took four months to confirm he had been killed in action. His body was never found.
