Ernest Stevens was wounded in action five times – at Gallipoli in April 1915, at Boursies, France in April 1917, at Hellebeke, Belgium in March 1918 and at Hondeghem, France in June 1918. On 23 August 1918 in France he was wounded in a gas attack near Vaire and died the next day. He was 23.
