Francis Gilmour served at Gallipoli from September to December 1915. He arrived in France in March 1916. A year later he was wounded in the neck and right ear in March 1917 and was hospitalised in London, re-joining his unit in December. He returned to Australia in January 1918 suffering from hearing loss. He died from tuberculosis at the Jubilee Sanatorium at Dalby on 1 July 1919.
