Frederick Lewis was promoted to Lieutenant in England in October 1916 and arrived in France in November. He was wounded in action in June 1917 and invalided to the 3rd London General Hospital, returning in September to his unit in France. He was killed in action on 1 September 1918 at Mont St Quentin.
