Frithiof Asche served in the Boer War in 1901-02 as a Sergeant with the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen (his first names were incorrectly recorded 'Frichof Hearfold'). In 1915 he successfully applied for a Commission in the AIF. When he arrived in France in November 1916 he was promoted to Lieutenant. Less than 10 weeks later he was killed by machine gun fire during a raid at Armentieres.
