Jack Sheehan arrived in France in October 1916 and transferred to the 49th Battalion. In Belgium in September 1917 he was wounded in action at Polygon Wood and evacuated to Epsom War Hospital. He re-joined his unit in France in February 1918 and was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux on Anzac Day. He body was never found.
