John Brisbane arrived in England in July 1916 and trained at Grantham Machine Gun School. He landed in France in October and transferred to the 12th Machine Gun Company. In June 1917 he was severely wounded in action and evacuated to Birmingham’s 1st Southern General Hospital. He returned to Australia in August and was discharged in November. He was 21.
