Leslie Buchanan arrived in France in June 1917 and in August was promoted to Lieutenant. In May 1918 he was slightly wounded in action near Vaire but stayed on duty. While in reserve at Battalion Headquarters near Wiancourt, he returned to the officers’ quarters on the evening of 4 September “in a collapsed condition” and had to be assisted to bed. The next morning his body was found on the ground after he had accidently fallen from a second floor window during the night and died from his injuries.
