Brother of 3384 Private Frank Reginald Chapman.
Percy Chapman arrived in France from Egypt in June 1916 and transferred to the recently-raised 47th Battalion which participated in its first major battle at Pozieres. In February 1917 he was promoted to Sergeant, then spent a month in hospital with acute bronchitis. He re-joined his unit in May and five weeks later in Belgium was killed in action at Messines. He was buried near where he fell but after the war his grave could not be found.
