Brother of 1085 Private Ralph Maxwell Hannay and 5605 Private John Henry Fitzpatrick Hannay (not on Roll of Honour).
Peter Hannay arrived in Egypt in January 1915. Following service at Gallipoli his unit trained in Egypt before proceeding to France in late-March 1916. In August he was wounded in action near Albert, France and taken to the 3rd Australian Field Ambulance where he died the same day.
