Welsh-born nurse Gwladys (“Gladys”) Thomas, enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service in July 1915 and embarked as a Staff Nurse assigned to No 3 Australian General Hospital at Lemnos (for casualties from Gallipoli). In January 1916 she re-located with No 3 Australian General Hospital to Cairo, Egypt. In March she returned to Australia with casualties from Gallipoli and returned to England in July. She did further round trips to Australia in February 1917 and March 1918 before returning permanently in November 1918.
