Thomas Radcliffe arrived in Egypt in April 1916. He was hospitalised with mumps before joining his unit at Tel-el-Kebir. In July he was sent with a squadron of 5th Light Horsemen to support British units fighting Turkish forces at Dueidar, east of the Suez Canal. He was killed at Kantara two weeks later while pursuing retreating Turks.
