Victor McKenzie landed in France in February 1916 and was assigned to the 54th Siege Battery. In July 1917 he was wounded in action and hospitalised in Boulogne. After recovering and taking leave in England he re-joined his unit in Belgium in October. Fifteen days later he was killed in action near Ypres.
