Brother of 559 Private Harold Griffith.
William Griffith landed in France in February 1917. In September in Belgium his battalion played a major role at the battle of Polygon Wood. On 20 January 1919, shortly after returning to France from leave in England, he contracted influenza. He was admitted at the 5ith Casualty Clearing Station at Maubeuge and died there the next day from pneumonia. His record states, “Death due to illness attributable to military operation in the field.”
