William Claydon landed at Lemnos in December 1915 with 2nd Light Horse Regiment reinforcements intended for Gallipoli but they were not deployed. He served in Egypt from December 1915 but was often unwell and spent more time in hospital than on duty. He was invalided to Australia in July 1917 and discharged in September.
