John Butler transferred to the 25th Battalion in England before arriving in France in January 1918. He was hospitalised in France several times with various ailments and returned to England in July. There he was diagnosed with ‘Dyspnoea and Effort Syndrome’ and invalided to Australia in December and discharged in March 1919.
