John Evans arrived in France from in March 1916. In July he was wounded at Pozieres and spent two months in hospital at Etaples. He re-joined his unit in September but was hospitalised again in November following a gas accident. He re-joined his unit near Flers and was killed two days later. He had just turned 21. His body was never found.
