Kendall Hammand landed at Gallipoli in September 1915 and returned to Egypt in January 1916. In June he suffered an accidental, self-inflicted head wound while handling an unfamiliar gun. The incident report concluded, "...through his lack of knowledge of the mechanism of the weapon he was not to blame."
